2009 America's Gay Bachelor Winner Announced! |

San Francisco, Calif., June 23 2009 --- Alejandro Rubio, Mr. California, was named the winner of myPartner.com’s second annual America’s Gay Bachelor 2009 contest during a sold-out , star-studded finale event at the W San Diego in San Diego. The contest seeks the country’s most eligible, relationship-minded gay bachelor in America.
The five contestants were evaluated by a panel of celebrity judges including Ari Gold, openly gay R & B recording artist, Jesse Brune from the hot Bravo show “Work Out”, and Abel Lima, 2008 Winner of America’s Gay Bachelor.
In a split decision, the judges chose Rubio as the winner based on the categories “mind”, “body” and “soul.” These categories draw from the unique and extensive Partner Perfect Compatibility matching system designed by gay men for gay men featured on myPartner.com. Brendan O’Hara, the bachelor representing the state of Massachusetts, came in as a close second. “There’s no question that each of the contestants in this year’s America’s Gay Bachelor contest are a great catch,” said Perrine. “We’re thrilled to have Alejandro as our winner, and Brendan as our runner-up. They’re both living proof that there are great guys out there, just looking for their perfect partner.”
Rubio and O’Hara, Mr. California and Mr. Massachusetts respectively, were two of five finalists chosen by more than 400,000 online voters at myPartner.com after a nationwide search. The other finalists represented Arizona, Indiana and Rhode Island.
During the live event, Rubio was asked by the judges about his biggest dating deal breaker, and with a response that most likely sealed his position as this year’s winner and generated applause and cheers from the crowd Rubio said: “Any guy that thinks civil unions are the same as marriage is a definite deal breaker.” This year’s America’s Gay Bachelor event supported both NO H8 (www.noh8campaign.com) and Marriage Equality USA (www.marriageequality.org) in an effort to help create awareness for gay marriage rights.
Fernando Lopez, representing the local chapter of Marriage Equality in San Diego, said to the Gay and Lesbian times in an interview on June 18th, that he “thinks it’s really cool that Mr. California happened to be from San Diego,” Lopez continued, “We had Ms. Carrie Prejean from San Diego be Ms. California, so now we’ve got our own Mr. California to counter that.”
Because the judges’ decision was so closely split between Rubio and O’Hara, both bachelors will become public spokesmen for myPartner.com and will help create awareness of eligible gay bachelors throughout the country. As the winner of the contest, Brendan will also receive a romantic get-a-way trip for two at the W San Diego and a $30,000 Private Matchmaking Package from myPartner.com.
