Local Man Vying For The Title Of “America's Most Eligible Gay Bachelor”

2008-05-24
San Francisco, Calif. – May 24, 2008 – Gerod Rody, a Seattle resident and University of Washington alumni, is competing for the title of “America’s Most Eligible Gay Bachelor” against hundreds of single gay men from all over the country. He’ll join other gay bachelors from around the Northwest this Wednesday, May 28th, at the Seattle W for a “Bachelor Party” sponsored by myPartner.com.

“I saw an ad for the contest and thought it looked so professional, not like the standard, hyper-sexual ads that are always used to target gay men,” said Rody. “To me, it indicated that we’ve grown as a community, that we’re starting to take relationships seriously.”

Rody, an MBA candidate and the founder of a local gay sustainability group, is happy to combat the stereotype of gay men as, as he puts it, “consumerist and shallow.” “I love that the Northwest is a place where people – including gay men – are focused on outdoor activities, socially conscious lifestyles and the environment. If you live in the Northwest, you’re less interested in any one ‘scene’ and more interested in connecting with the people around you.”

"We want gay men across America to have a great time celebrating what makes us attractive to others. This contest will bring out the best in us all as we search for the ultimate available man," said Patrick Perrine, M.A., CEO and founder of myPartner.com.

Perrine and myPartner.com are hosting live “Bachelor Parties” across the country as they scour all 50 states to find the first ever “America’s Most Eligible Gay Bachelor.” Each event will feature on-site matchmaking using myPartner’s Partner Perfect Compatibility™ system. “This is a great way for us to show everyone how our matchmaking system works, and have a little fun at the same time,” says Perrine. “Everyone comes to the party single, but not everyone will leave that way.”

Of the top 51 contestants, one from each state and one from the nation‘s capital, five will be selected and flown to San Diego for final judging. A panel of experts will decide who is America's Gay Bachelor during a star-studded event at the W San Diego on July 17th during San Diego’s Gay Pride celebration. The America's Gay Bachelor contest winner will receive a romantic get-a-way trip for two at the W San Diego, a $25,000 Private Matchmaking Package, a trip to San Diego Gay Pride week, and a chance to be featured in a national publication.

“We want to issue a challenge to the nation to make sure their best men get nominated. It's a friendly competition to find the most desirable men,” said Perrine.

To nominate candidates, go to www.mypartner.com/AmericasGayBachelorContest.html anytime through the end of May. Online voting begins June 1st. “Of course I’d love to win the contest,” says Rody, “but I’m much more interested in meeting new people, and maybe finding that special guy who's been just around the corner here in Seattle all along.”
